Ping Shan Heritage Trail located in Ping Shan, Yuen Long, is the first heritage trail in Hong Kong. Ping Shan in Yuen Long is one of the oldest areas in Hong Kong. It is also home to the Tang clan, an important clan in the New Territories.
The trail is about one kilometre long and features more than a dozen scenic spots, which are mainly ancient Chinese architecture. Along the trail, you will pass through a number of villages, including the only ancient pagoda in Hong Kong – Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda, as well as a number of walled villages and ancestral shrines.
Ming Dynasty – Hongwu Reign – Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda
Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda (English: Pagoda of Gathering Stars) is located in the north of Sheung Cheung Wai, near Tin Shui Wai MTR Station. It is built of grey bricks in a hexagonal shape and is about 13 metres high. The three-storey tower, of which each storey is decorated with the unique shape of the brick eaves.
The upper floor of the pagoda houses a statue of Kui Xing, who is believed to be the deity in control of success in examinations. Each floor of Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda has auspicious titles, from top to bottom floors, they are: “Over the Milky Way”, “The Pagoda of Gathering Stars” and “Light Shines Straight Onto the Dippers and the Enclosures”. It was declared a monument in December 2001.

Visitors to the Heritage Trail should pay special attention to the starting point and finishing point. The starting point is the most elegant and green-themed Ping Shan Tin Shui Wai Public Library in Hong Kong, and the ending point is the Ping Shan Tang Clan Gallery, which is a perfect summary of the journey.
